Collaborative Researches
As a Joint Research Center, the JGSS Research Center publicly calls for cooperative research projects in the two manners shown below. Those who have submitted outstanding proposals are entitled to freely access and analyze the substantial collection of our reliable survey data for research purposes. Information about the call for research issues is given on our official website and in the newsletters of the Japan Sociological Society etc. We look forward to receiving many applications.
Call for Research Issues (for participation in our survey from the design stage)
We invite the submission of research issues in the field of social sciences to be explored and pursued by our General Social Survey 12 to 24 months prior to the implementation of the relevant survey. Applicants are required to describe the purpose and background of the research and the specific questions to be included in the GSS. Successful applicants are entitled to participate in the survey from its design stage in cooperation with the JGSS Research Center, and to collect and analyze the survey data to implement the research.
Call for analytical Issues (for participation in our survey from the analysis stage)
After completion of our survey and before releasing the survey data to the public, we invite the submission of multifaceted analytical issues using the latest survey data. Applicants are required to specify a detailed analysis plan based on the questionnaires used in our surveys. Successful applicants are entitled to participate in the survey from the data analysis stage in cooperation with the researchers involved in the design of the survey, and to implement the research by using the pre-released JGSS data.
Calls for cooperative research projects are issued separately for the Japanese General Social Surveys (JGSS) and the East Asian Social Survey (EASS). Screening of applications is conducted by the Steering Committee of the JGSS Research Center. Successful applicants are entitled to participate in a joint research project in the capacity of part-time researchers of the Center. Graduate students may participate in research projects through the "JGSS Researcher Encouraging Program*."
In addition to the call for joint research projects, we invite researchers to submit papers of analysis research using the JGSS data annually in March or April, and to recognize the authors of distinguished papers following the screening by the Steering Committee. We look forward to receiving many applications.
* "JGSS Researcher Encouraging Program" was started to offer opportunities for graduate students to take part in JGSS and to write papers based on the analysis of the JGSS data, with the aim to nurture young researchers capable of designing and implementing JGSS and reporting the JGSS results to the public. Graduate students who are recognized as having potential that can be developed through training may be invited to join JGSS, even if the questions they propose for JGSS are not accepted.
